If you’re in need of a triple portable monitor for your laptop so you can work more productively on the go or even at home, then you might want to check out the Xebec Tri-Screen 2.

My husband and I got this portable triple monitor thinking we’d use it while we travel, but it ended up being really handy at home with both our Macbook Pro and his PC laptop. In fact, I’m using it right now at home as I write this Xebec review.

Of course, the Xebec Tri-Screen 2 isn’t perfect so to help you figure out if this portable triple screen is the one for you, keep on reading and find out the pros and cons!

TL:DR; The Xebec Tri-Screen 2 was unbelievably quick and easy to set up. It is super lightweight and small making it quite portable. It increased my productivity as I thought it would but the real bonus was how well it kept me organized and focused at the task at hand, which really helps working with ADHD!

See why over 600 people gave it 4.5 stars here.

Why We Got the Xebec + How We Ended Up Using It

Before I jump into this Xebec review, thought you might want to know why we even got it and what we ended up using it for.

Travel Creator Work

I’m a travel creator. Before I had baby Zephyr (who’s now 6 months old 🤗), I traveled anywhere from 60-100 days a year!

Since I anticipate traveling again for work a lot (maybe not 100 days a year…) but also need to split my time between work/taking care of a little human amidst my travels, I’ll need to increase my productivity.

To increase my productivity, I’ve gotten better at planning (I actually got diagnosed with ADHD this year~ life changing) and opted for the Xebec Tri-Screen 2.

Two monitors are better than one right? Apparently it is!

Three monitors increase productivity by 35.5%!

Work at Home on a Macbook Pro

Although I got the Xebec for travel, I tried it out at home and 100% YES~ as I and science thought it would, it’s already increased my productivity.

Unfortunately, in our small 2 bedroom apartment, our office got converted into the baby’s room and our bedroom now holds the desk, which my husband and I share when he works from home.

not just for travel ~ great for converting a high traffic area into a temporary workspace

We used to fight over the desk since it has the large external monitor but now we can easily take turns working in the living room or the bedroom since we have the Xebec screen.

Even though the external monitor on the desk is really large, I actually prefer working with the Xebec monitors because of the two screens on both sides of my Macbook Pro (2018 15-inch).

It really helps me organize my work better and stay focused on the task at hand.

For example, when I’m editing a video, I have:

  • Final Cut Pro up on my laptop screen,
  • Finder open on the right so I can easily drag and drop files in and out
  • and the brand’s brief or my script on my left so I don’t miss out on any details.

With everything open to get my work done efficiently, I don’t have to swap through windows, which sometimes distracts me and unintentionally gets me working on some unrelated project. This really helps my ADHD brain focus!

Finance Professional Work on a Microsoft Laptop

Because of the nature of my work, my husband travels with me sometimes but that doesn’t mean he’s technically on vacation.

He often has to work when he travels with me and working without a monitor really slows down his work. Now he has two screens that he can easily use on his Microsoft laptop.

He personally:

  • keeps his email and work chat on the left screen,
  • main work on his laptop screen
  • and supporting Excel sheets on the right for quick reference.

Sorry for calling him out but… He’s not the most tech savvy so we’re really happy with how quick and easy this triple portable monitor is to set up on both his Microsoft laptop and my Macbook Pro.

The fact that we both can use it at home and while traveling helps justify the cost even more but the increased productivity for one person alone makes the price worth it.

Xebec Review- Pros and Cons

Pros of This Portable Triple Monitor

The most noticeable difference in having two screens vs. one is the increased productivity.

I thought I’d prefer my large external monitor over the two small ones but I was surprised to find that I actually prefer the two smaller screens.

This is because I’m more organized. I can have every part of the project I’m working on completely laid out on all three screens, which means I don’t have to constantly swap through apps/sites looking for what I need or get distracted by something else.

Its size and weight make the Xebec Tri-Screen extremely portable, which means I can work anywhere I want in the world or simply convert a living space in my home to a work space for the afternoon.

  • Size and Weight
    • Weight: 2 pounds
    • Depth: 1 inch
    • Height: 7.5 inches
    • Width: 12 inches

Because it’s really easy to set up, not only can I work anywhere but I can quickly convert a space to a workspace at home or while traveling.

The screen works on both Microsoft and Mac so this is something both my husband and I can use while traveling.

  • Compability
    • Compatible with all operating systems. Including, Windows (PC), Mac, ChromeOS, etc. Plus any device with a video out source.
    • Fits laptops with screens ranging from 12-20 inches

Since I’m often editing videos and photos, a clear, high quality screen is really helpful. Even though this triple monitor is portable, it doesn’t sacrifice clarity and looks better than the standalone external monitor at home.

  • Info About the Display
    • Two 10.1 inch (diagonal) 1920 x 1200, Full HD LCD IPS panels
    • 16:10 aspect ratio
    • 60hz refresh rate

Last but not least, I love how well thought out the user experience is. From opening the box to following the instructional videos online, the product and experience is very user friendly!

It comes with:

  • 2 HDMI to mini-HDMI cables
  • 2 USB-A to USB-C adapters
  • a USB-C 90° pass-through charging adapter
  • a velcro cable tie (for someone who loves to be organized, this was a very thoughtful measure to add)
  • 2 USB-C to USB-C cables
  • USB-C extender

It basically comes with every cable/adapter imaginable (unless you have a Macbook with an M1 chip~ read on for that).

Not Ideal But Manageable “Cons”

Adapter Needed for Macbooks With an M1 Chip

For Macbooks with an M1 Chip, you’ll need to get the tri-screen adapter, which is an additional cost.

Nonetheless, the adapter is well thought out and keeps the cords organized!

Also, installing the driver was really easy as the QR code right on the box to brings you straight to the driver you need.

Getting Used to the Screen Inputs on the First Time

I found plugging in the cords into the screens to be a bit tricky as it’s underneath the screen. But quickly realized, there’s a reason why there are lines on the screen right above where the cables should go in.

This is really only an “issue” the first time you use the screens as you get used to it.

So if it helps, flip the screen upside down just to see where the mini HDMI (1st port on the inside) and the USB C ports (two outer ports) are, and then once the screen is on your laptop, use the lines to guide you!

Conclusion

As you can tell, the benefits outweigh the very manageable cons so I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to increase their productivity or quickly convert any highly used living space into a workspace.

How much does the Xebec Tri-Screen 2 weigh?

The Xebec Tri-Screen only weighs 2 lbs, which makes it half the weight of my 4.04 lb Macbook Pro (2018, 15″).

The weight and size (12″ W 7.5″ H 1″ D) make it extremely portable as it can fit easily in your backpack or even laptop bag alongside your laptop.

To support the weight of the Xebec screen on your laptop, there’s a built in kickstand that’s quite sturdy!

Is Xebec Tri-Screen compatible with…?

The Xebec Tri-Screen is compatible with every operating system whether it’s Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome, etc.

It also fits any laptops with screens ranging from 12 – 20 inches.

However, you will need the tri-screen adapter if you have an M1 Macbook Pro, M1 Macbook Air, M2 Macbook Pro or M2 Macbook Air. Basically, any Macbook with an M1 chip.

How much does the Xebec Tri-Screen cost?

The Xebec portable monitor is a solid investment at $499 but the benefits of it certainly make it worth every penny.

These tangible benefits include but are not limited to:

  • 35.5% to 44% boost in productivity
  • Compact – folded up, it is 12″ W 7.5″ H 1″ D
  • Portable – fits in a backpack alongside your laptop
  • Lightweight – only weighs 2 pounds

You can literally take it anywhere in the world to work or even use it at home if you have a small apartment where your workspace doubles as your dining table.

If you’re hesitant about the cost, you might want to consider the intangible benefits from being more productive, which is what I push myself to do when making a bigger purchase that I know would really benefit me but the price tag scares me in the moment.

For you that might mean:

  • Getting work done faster and having more time for your health or family
  • Learning more efficiently so you can make better business decisions
  • Enjoying the process of your work more as it’s more streamlined
  • Being able to take on more clients since you’re more productive
  • Working anywhere in the world

Furthermore, if you’re a freelancer like I am, you can expense this under Schedule C, which reduces your taxable income!

Hope this Xebec review helped you decide if this portable triple screen laptop monitor will boost your productivity and allow you to work wherever!
